61-year-old James Matthew Bradley, Jr., accused of transporting in a hot trailer-trailer 39 illegal immigrants from Mexico, pleaded guilty. In the trailer because of the heat and lack of air killed 10 people, according to a press release of the Ministry of justice.
The trailer truck was discovered on July 23 in the Parking lot of Walmart in San Antonio, Texas. It was opened by firefighters and police after one of the people who were inside, I asked the Walmart employee to get water.
Eight people in the trailer were already dead, two more died from dehydration and heat stroke in the hospital. Officials believe that 39 people – not the limit, and earlier this trailer was carrying more than 70 people.
According to investigators, the conditions inside the trailer were «horrendous». Temperature reached more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit (over 37 degrees Celsius). One of the illegals who survived in this «stove», said the driver ignored their blows, when they tried to reach him through the wall of the trailer. Breathing people had to take turns through the hole in the wall.
Initially, Bradley insisted that he didn’t know about the «content» of the trailer, but later pleaded guilty.
«This case is a vivid reminder that the smugglers are guided by greed and not think for a second about the health and welfare of human cargo,» said ABC News special agent Department of homeland security in San Antonio, Shane M. Golden.
It is expected that the driver would be sentenced to life imprisonment in Federal prison. The verdict will be announced in January.
The second man accused in the organization of this operation, the 47-year-old Pedro Silva Segura was later arrested in Laredo, Texas. He will deliver in San Antonio.
