New bill proposed to extend the sale of alcohol in 9 cities in California

State Senator San Francisco, Scott Weiner has again introduced a bill that will extend the time of the sale of alcohol in 9 cities in California.

The law will act in San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Sacramento, West Hollywood, long beach, Coachella (riverside County), Cathedral city (riverside County) and palm springs. Local officials have shown interest to participate in this five-year pilot program, which allows bars, Nightclubs and restaurants to sell alcohol until 4 a.m., two hours later than permitted at present.

Weiner first introduced this bill in 2017, but in the Assembly the law was commuted to gradually learn the consequences of innovations. At the beginning of this year, Governor Jerry brown vetoed the law, opposing the views of the state legislature.

«Governor brown vetoed the same bill saying that it will lead to «trouble and unrest». No, it is not. This will lead to a great night life. We will not surrender,» wrote Weiner. According to the Senator, the nightlife in the cities is very important, and it is time to change the strict 100 year rule that selling alcohol in California should be finished by 2 o’clock in the morning.

As we near Xmas, let’s give the gift of great nightlife. Yesterday, I introduced SB 58, 9 allowing cities to extend nightlife to 4 am. Gov Brown vetoed the same bill this year, saying it’d lead to “mischief & mayhem.” No, it won’t. It’ll lead to great nightlife. We won’t give up.

Cities that will participate in the program will be to create rules about where is allowed the sale of alcohol until 4 a.m. and how often. Supporters of the law believe that the extra hours will give impetus to the development of small business and culture in California.
