Today, February 1, Secretary of state Mike Pompeo announced that the United States suspended its participation in the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty) in compliance with the Moscow agreement.
«Violations by Russia are subjected to millions of Europeans and Americans at greater risk, said Pompeo, adding: — We are obliged to react».
Recall that the INF Treaty was signed December 8, 1987 during the cold war between the USSR and the USA.
Of its intention to withdraw from the Treaty, the United States said in early December. Then Pompeo warned that Russia has 60 days to correct the situation and start to fulfil their obligations under the contract.
