Tuesday, March 10, conservationists said that the only white giraffe and its calf were killed by poachers in Kenya.
The bodies of two giraffes were found «after they were killed by armed poachers» in Garissa in Eastern Kenya, said in a statement the community of Hisakuni of Hirola.
Now only one survived the white giraffe, a lone male, which gave birth to, just the same dead female.

Their white colour is associated with a mutation called laicismo, causing partial loss of pigmentation of the outer covering of animals.
«This is a very sad day for the community Ijara, Kenya as a whole, — said Mohammed Ahmednoor, an employee of the Department of conservation. We are the only community in the world, which is the custodian of the white giraffe. His murder is a blow to the huge steps taken by the community for preservation of rare and unique species».
Ahmednoor added that these cases have had a considerable impact on tourism and research industry.
The white giraffe has generated huge interest in 2017, when she was first sighted in the reserve, and the second time when she gave birth to two cubs.
