But why the company spent a year hiding data loss?

According to Bloomberg, the head of security Joe Sullivan Uber heard about the break in November 2016 and managed to get on the hackers. When he reported this to Chuck Kalanick, who headed the company at that time, the latter decided to hide the incident and to pay the kidnappers of 100 thousand that they destroyed the stolen data.

At the moment Sullivan, who prior to joining Uber was a Federal Prosecutor, dismissed. Kalanick refuses to comment on the incident.
