In October last year, hackers broke into the database of the company Uber and stole the data of 57 million passengers around the world and 600 thousand drivers. On Tuesday it announced a new CEO of the Dar Khosrovshahi.
Cybercriminals managed to take over the information on names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses of customers and information about Emerich signs cars. Uber have assured that «third-party forensics found no signs of stolen data such as travel itineraries, credit card numbers, Bank accounts, social security cards and dates of birth». In addition, the carrier argues that the consequences of the incident removed, and the affected accounts used additional protection measures.
But why the company spent a year hiding data loss?
According to Bloomberg, the head of security Joe Sullivan Uber heard about the break in November 2016 and managed to get on the hackers. When he reported this to Chuck Kalanick, who headed the company at that time, the latter decided to hide the incident and to pay the kidnappers of 100 thousand that they destroyed the stolen data.
At the moment Sullivan, who prior to joining Uber was a Federal Prosecutor, dismissed. Kalanick refuses to comment on the incident.
The attorney General of new York Eric Schneiderman initiated an investigation into the hacking of the company servers and steal personal data of users.
