Recently, taxi drivers complained that their earnings are not sufficient for a normal life because of the competition from the flooded Big Apple transport apps such as Uber and Lyft, but it turned out that the drivers «on the other side of the fence» also live a difficult life.

Union Independent Drivers Guild represents about 60,000 drivers, 45 000 of whom work in the city. Its members claim that 73% of drivers in new York who earn private carrying at least a year, complain less financial stability compared to that which they had before they began work.

If the requirements of petition are met, drivers will receive $20 from $27, which passengers pay for UBERx, which will be a significant increase in wages, given that now they get $14 for the same trip.

In response to the petition, the representative of Uber said that the company is «always working to improve the drivers’ working environment, in particular through a recently begun campaign «180 days of change», which included the increase of earnings with the help of a tip or payment for returned lost items».

The Union proposal also includes a limitation on fees for companies that should prevent rise of prices for transport services, as well as extra for the trip back to the city.
