Toyota and Mazda jointly build a new plant in the United States

Company Toyota Motor Corp. announced Friday that together with its rival Mazda plans to build in USA a new plant, moving production of pickups and SUVs from Mexico to the territory of States. This decision was taken following the President’s announcement about trump’s plans to increase taxation for companies producing their products outside the United States. The preliminary cost of the new plant is estimated at $ 1.6 billion.

In the end of the transaction (contract signing scheduled for October 2, 2017), Toyota will become the owner of 5% of the company’s shares of Mazda, but Mazda will gain 0.25% of the shares to Toyota.

Toyota originally planned to produce sedans Corolla at the plant it is building in Guanajuato, but now will switch to producing small cars and new crossover Mazda SUV on a new Assembly plant in the United States.

The representative of Toyota de Mexico Luis Lozano said that the global automaker will continue to study production SUV in Guanajuato, in the context of the model Tacoma.

The news of the creation of the new plant has already commented on the US President Donald trump. In his Twitter he wrote: «Toyota and Mazda will build a new plant in the U.S. cost $1.6 billion and create 4,000 jobs. This is a great investment in American manufacturing!».

The company plans to open a plant by 2021. Annually the plant will produce up to 300,000 cars.
