McDonald’s will prohibit the suppliers of meat to use antibiotics

Wednesday, August 23, in the McDonald’s Corp has announced that it will begin to restrict the use of antibiotics in the supply of chicken meat, writes Reuters.

Campaign to combat antibiotic will focus on removing those drugs that may affect human health. However, the ones that are important for maintaining health of poultry will still apply.
McDonald’s representatives said that in the next two years in the United States the use of antibiotics in production will be completely stopped.

In January 2018, the antibiotics will disappear from the chickens supplied to McDonald’s in Brazil, Canada, Japan, South Korea, USA and Europe, and by the end of 2019 — in Australia and Russia.

Many meat producers in the US give their birds antibiotics to speed up animal growth. But scientists warn that continued use of drugs to promote growth and prevent disease in healthy farm animals promotes the development of dangerous, antibiotic-resistant infections, which kill at least 23,000 Americans every year and represent a serious threat to the health of people around the world.
