The death toll from hurricane Harvey continues to grow. Residents still evacuated from flooded areas as many rivers burst their banks.
According to the latest data, has killed more than 50 people, but the final figure will be known after the water subsides.
The youngest victim is now is a six-month old girl. Authorities in Walker County on Saturday confirmed her death on August 27.
The tragedy happened on Highway 150 near New Waverly and Coldspring. Rescuers heard the screams at the flooded highway, and then noticed two people who climbed on the tree. A man and a woman tried to escape from the stream of water and screamed about his daughter.
As it turned out, a married couple with six-month old child were traveling from Houston to Louisiana, away from the floods. But on the highway, the water began to flood their truck, the couple got out of the car, but lost the baby.
«The water flow was so powerful that just ripped the baby out of their hands,» says Chron.com employee fire Department New Waverly Jimmy Williams.
Rescuers tried to find the child or at least the girl’s body, they continued the search all the time, from 27 August, but all were unsuccessful.
«This is the worst,» adds Williams. «So scary, as you can imagine».
