Firefighters took out children from a burning house in Queens

On Monday at about 02:30 in a three-storey residential building located in the area of the Rockaways in Queens, there was a fire. Not all tenants had time to leave the building in one of the apartments on the last floor there was a mother with children.

Stairwell fire raged, so they couldn’t get out. Sitting by the window, the woman called for help. In a short time on the scene – on Beach 91st Street – firefighters arrived.

Seeing them, the mother was already ready to pull their children down from the window, but a few of the members of the fire service decided to get inside.

“We got to sacrifice, and each of us grabbed one child. We also took under the hands of two older children who could walk independently, and passing the fire came down the inside stairs and went outside. We then went back and extinguished the flames,” said Joe Costa, Lieutenant of the Fire Department of new York city, reporters from ABC7 Eyewitness News.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. The victims were taken to the hospital. It is known that among them was a policeman. According to dnainfo, just fire injured 15 people. Doctors said their injuries are minor.
