Fleeing from police, a thief with a stolen purse, jumped in the Hudson

Yesterday, June 5, shortly after midnight, the staff of the new York police chased the man who grabbed someone else’s purse and tried to escape. It happened in Manhattan, near the intersection of Riverside Drive and West 88th Street, in riverside Park, that is very close to the river Hudson.

Unfortunately for the thief, he was noticed by law enforcement, which almost caught up with him at the river. Then the man decided on a desperate step: to jump in the Hudson and «disengage» from police by swimming.

But it was not followed by employees of the coast guard and the team’s Emergency Service Unit. When they returned to the shore together with the kidnapper, the police arrested him.

As a precautionary measure the man was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital and then taken into custody. At the moment the charges against him have not yet been made.
