A four year old boy from Texas died suddenly after a weekend spent with family on the Gulf coast. While swimming it swept with a wave, and he swallowed some water and after 6 days suddenly waking up in the night, kid felt a sharp pain, took a deep breath and … died. He was the victim of a rare phenomenon «dry drowning».

Literally the second the baby was under the water before he was pulled from the parents. Agree absolutely typical situation for a summer vacation with the kids. After the incident, the family returned home safely and life flowed still. Kid no showed poor health and did not cause concern among parents. He remained active, enjoyed playing outdoor games, but then came Saturday, June 3. The boy woke up at night from severe pain in the stomach. Initially, the parents decided that it was poisoning or something like that. The child appeared vomiting and diarrhea. At some point, Frankie took a deep breath, as if he lacked air, and leaned back on the bed. He died.

This situation may lead to so-called «dry drowning» or «secondary drowning». The consequences can appear after several hours or days after people get water in my mouth. These cases are most typical for children. In the aftermath of the incident, the child’s behavior changes dramatically, he becomes a lot more being tired and lethargic, can disrupt the coordination of movements, a cyanotic skin. However, we must distinguish between «dry» and «secondary» drowning.

During the «dry» drowning water in the lungs does not fall, she enters the mouth and nose, causing a spasm of the vocal cords and shortness of breath. The lack of oxygen leads to oxygen starvation of the brain that is not instantly fatal but affects a person.

When «secondary» drowning, water enters directly into the lungs of a person and causes their swelling. Both «drowning without water» fatal, but are fairly rare. To save man is possible, but only if timely access to medical care.

The main symptoms and dry, and secondary drowning are:

— labored or frequent breathing, but not deep, as in bronchitis;

— pain in the chest area;

— increase in body temperature;

— sudden weakness, lethargy;

— dizziness, confusion, inattention and forgetfulness are a sign of lack of oxygen;

— nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;

— change the color of the skin.

Ahead of the summer holiday season and school holidays. Be careful during the holidays with the kids!
