Yesterday, November 30, the town of Cohoes North of Albany, new York, turned into a fiery Inferno.
The flame from a huge fire destroyed and damaged nearly two dozen buildings.
As reported by WRGB, the city government, according to preliminary information, the fire occurred because of the Smith-lover, which lit a fire in his back yard, imitating TV shows.
The city is in a state of emergency. «This is the biggest disaster in our history», – said at a press conference, mayor Shawn Morse.
According to the mayor, local resident John Gomez, fascinated by blacksmithing, tried to forge metal in the backyard of his home. To do this, he lit a fire in a barrel. The man was a fan of the TV show , «Forged in Fire»in which the Smiths are competing for the right to forge «the most incredible weapon ever.»
But the fire got out of control. The flames got on the adjacent buildings due to strong winds. In the end, within the hour, three city blocks were on fire and filled with smoke.
People had to be evacuated and one fireman was injured while fighting.
«We often say to people: open fires are prohibited in the city, and we answer: Yes, what’s the worst that could happen?», said mayor Morse. «Well, this unintentional arson destroyed half of the city centre and caused damage in the millions of dollars.»
51-year-old John Gomez, who was arrested and charged, pleaded not guilty.
