A police officer risked their lives, hanging on the helicopter to pull a dying man out of the icy Merrimack river in Lowell, the state of Massachusetts.

As reported by the Boston Globe, it happened last night, January 3.

According to the representative of the state police, David Procopio, in the river was «distraught man». Rescuers tried to reach it by boat, but were unable to because of ice during the rescue operation was damaged two boats.

A police helicopter arrived around 19 PM, a searchlight to illuminate the scene. But after rescuers failed, and drowning man has ceased to move, the police from the helicopter decided to try to get him out.

«They had no other options,» said Procopio.
