Fallen from the roof of a block of ice smashed car in Manhattan

After two weeks of frost, the thermometer in the Big Apple and finally started to rise above zero. However, the long-awaited thaw brought new troubles — flooded roads and falling from roofs snow and ice. The latter phenomenon is a direct threat to local residents.

What happened on Tuesday with the car 18-year-old Coltrane of Nidler, allows us to estimate the extent of the danger.

The incident took place near a 21-story building on Charleston street in SOHO. Around 16:10 a large block of ice broke and fell on the vehicle, turning his back in a pile of scrap metal.

If at this point, inside were passengers, they would not be good. Fortunately, the car was empty, therefore incident has done without victims.

After the incident, the building Department issued a reminder to homeowners and developers, urging them to immediately clear the roof, overhangs and gutters from melting ice and icicles.
