At first, the police rescued only one girl, she is immediately taken to the hospital and doctors had restored the vital functions of an organism by carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Now she is still fighting for her life staying in the intensive care unit of the medical center Jersey Shore.

About the second girl found out later, when her body appeared above the water. Dragged to the shore, but then it turned out that she was already dead.

Later was able to establish that the two cousins lived in Belmar and went to the same school – Belmar Elementary School.

The coast guard and a team of divers decided not to stop the sinking, fearing that the water might be even more teenagers. However, cousins was the only one.

Subsequently, Matt Doherty, mayor of the city, announced that the rescuers will stay on the beaches longer, starting Friday, and not Saturday, as originally planned.
