An explosion at a refinery in Wisconsin: 6 wounded (updated)

Today, 26 April, about 10 o’clock in the morning at the refinery Husky Energy in the city of Superior (Wisconsin) explosion.

According to fire chief Steve Pendzher, as a result of the incident injured at least six people. They were taken to a hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. Pendzher reported that has no information about the severity of their injuries, but also do not know whether there is dead. The firefighter said that his Department managed to extinguish the fire by 11:20.

The contractor who was inside the building told local channel WDIO that the explosion was similar to the «sonic boom«. According to him, the incident occurred during the closure of the plant for repairs. Pendzher added that the plant exploded in a small tank, which was either crude oilor asphaltic bitumen.

Police are asking residents not to approach the area of the plant. At the moment police blocked the road near the scene.

Superior is a city with a population of about 27 thousand people, which has borders with Minnesota and lake superior (which in English sounds like Superior).
