In Michigan during a fire at the Motel killed mother with 5 children

Early this morning a fire at a Motel in southwest Michigan took the lives of 6 members of one family. The police have been able to identify all the dead.

They were the mother, 26-year-old Chiara, Samuel, and her five children: 10-year-old Marquis Thompson, a 7-year-old Jerome Randolph, a 5-year-old Samuel Curtis, a 4-year Saved Curtis and 2-year-old Avery Curtis.

The tragedy occurred at the Cosmo Extended Stay Motel, which is located on the lake in Benton Harbor. At the time the fire started was occupied by guests 27 rooms. The fire destroyed almost 90% of the interior.

“All of us here we’ve all lost everything. This is our home. We have nothing left… at least we have our lives.”

The cause of the fire is not yet established. Leroy Johnson, one of the guests of the Motel, stated that a fire could start with his room.

Waking up, he saw that the bed on fire. Exclaiming «Oh My God!», Johnson grabbed the sheets, ran to the bathroom and wet them with water. Then, returning to bed, he tried to knock down the flames with sheets, but it didn’t work. Then Johnson turned for help to the neighbor.

Call the fire Department, which is in the County of Berrien (Michigan), arrived 1.45 am local time.

Currently, the Motel has been evacuated. The local hospital was brought in a few people, some of them were released shortly after admission. Help at least one child of 2 years.
