After the arrest and of the charges Dorothy Bruns four months later was released from prison on bail. In June, her lawyer said that the woman was beaten by a cellmate at Rikers island, where the prison.
It is known that Bruns was suffering with multiple sclerosis, and doctors urged her not to drive. In 2016 she had more than 10 traffic violations, including speeding in the area near the school, and repeated the drive at a red light.
