Ron Helus — COP with a capital letter
Deputy Sheriff Ventura County Ron Helus was just talking with my wife on the phone when the call came in about the shooting at Borderline Bar & Grill.
«I need to go out on a call, love you, talk to you later» — it was the last words the officer’s wife heard from her husband.
Help immediately exchanged fire with the attackers, was wounded and died in hospital. Sergeant Eric Bushow, colleague of Haluza, called it «a COP with a big letter». «I was not surprised that he was the first among the defendants. He was one of those guys who without hesitation rushed into battle,» said the Sergeant.
Cody Coffman: do not wait for birth sister
22-year-old Cody adored his three younger brothers aged 6 to 9 years old and madly waiting for the birth of the sisters, who have been born 29 Nov.
«Cody was a wonderful big brother, he was so happy that finally he will have a sister, but he’ll never see her,» said the victim’s father, Jason. The man added that he had spoken with his son by telephone just shortly before he went to the bar. «The first thing I said was: please don’t drive if you drink alcohol. The last thing I said I love you.»
Justin MIK: cared for children with disabilities
23-year-old graduate of California Lutheran University Justin Mick took care of the children with special needs, sang in the choir and worked in a bar Borderline.
According to eyewitnesses, Justin managed to save several people during the shooting before he died.
Since last summer the guy also worked in the organization of Island Social Services as the assistant on care of children with special needs, mainly disabilities.
Alayne Housley: athlete and violinist
Aleyne was only 18 years old, she was a promising student, studying law. She played soccer and tennis, and studied music – piano and violin. The bar girl went to dance with friends.
«There were people who would not have loved her,» said the relatives of the deceased.
Telemachus Orfanos: a veteran of the Navy
In his 27 years Orfanos Telemachus, whose friends called just «Bodies», was already a veteran of the naval forces of the United States.
His mother, Susan Schmidt-Orfanos learned that son died, said that she doesn’t need the «prayers and comforting words of politicians».
«You have my word: I want Congress to strengthen control over weapons. I want to avoid the families that will never come back kids,» the woman added.
Noel sparks — helper in the Church
21-year-old student Noel sparks was a regular at Borderline Bar & Grill. On the fateful Wednesday, she even posted photos from the bar. This photo was the last in a girl’s life.
Noel worked in the Church, helping to organize various programs for children, as loved children.

23-year-old Justin Meek was a recent college graduate.

Shawn Adler: the security guard who dreamed of becoming a police officer
48-year-old Sean Adler worked as a security guard at the Borderline. The father of two sons, he died protecting visitors.
«I knew him from his youth, he was a great man who simply could not refuse others help. Once he dreamed of becoming a police officer, but something didn’t work, he chose a job that still allows you to protect the people,» said a longtime friend of Adler, Debbie Allen.
