The message about the shooter at a military medical center near Washington turned out to be false

Member of the U.S. house of representatives Dutch Ruppersberger announced that Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Maryland shooting occurred. Later the naval base Bethesda (Naval Support Activity Bethesda) reported that they found no evidence of this incident.

«Now I’m in Walter Reed Medical in Bethesda, where we were informed that there is an active shooter. Now I’m safe in the conference room with 40 other [people],» wrote Ruppersberger on Twitter at around 14:40.

I am currently at Walter Reed Medical in Bethesda where we’ve been told there is an active shooter. I am currently safe in a conference room w/ approx 40 others.

Then the medical center confirmed that the building is locked, and the phones of people nearby were sent alerts about an active shooter. There were no reports of any injuries or deaths. SWAT group replied to the message and cleared the building.

One of the employees Lindsay Miglior wrote on Twitter that she didn’t hear a single shot and still hopes that it was a false alarm.

Inside Walter Reed right now after the active shooter announcement. Was looking on Twitter for news and it’s filled with people questioning the safety of their loved ones. Building 19 is in lockdown. Haven’t heard any shots. Multiple agencies responding. Hopefully false alarm. pic.twitter.com/xNDKyEuN56

At 15:20 press service of the naval base confirmed that the shooter was not found. Medical staff were allowed to move freely within the building.
