The explosion apparently damaged a water pipe and the wall separating the construction area from the roadway. Now part of the construction site adjacent to the Northern Boulevard in East Elmhurst, flooded, because most of the water from the water gushed forth there.

On a scene there arrived the FDNY and Con Edison.

Energy company Con Edison currently disables the 24-inch pipeline.

The FDNY reported that, according to them, luckily no one was hurt.

The exact cause of the collapse of the street to be seen, but authorities say that most likely, the reason has to do with the current construction work being carried out at the site. According to preliminary version, the workers hit a gas pipeline that caused the explosion, which collapsed part of the road and was damaged plumbing. Though Friday is officially no work at the construction site was conducted.

At the moment Northern Boulevard between 112th and 114th streets are still blocked and drivers who wish to reach to Grand Central Parkway, we strongly recommend the use of 34th Avenue and Astoria Boulevard.
