According to early reports, the man demanded to expand the liner and deliver it to Afghanistan. According to eyewitnesses, he was trying to break into the cockpit and threatened that he had a gun.

An aircraft commander decided on an emergency landing in Khanty-Mansiysk. The suspect was detained immediately after he got off the plane. Later it became known that the hijacking of the liner attempted a 41-year-old resident of Surgut district Pavel Shapovalov. During the search of weapons or other dangerous items if it is not found.

During the trial were read out testimony from flight attendants, according to which the man said that is related to the tragic events of 11 September 2001 in the United States. No other source of information about his involvement in the attacks has not been confirmed.

Khanty-Mansi district court decided to hold Pavel Shapovalov custody and sent to psychological-psychiatric examination.
