The thermos that had fallen on the pedals of the bus probably was the cause of the deadly crash in new York

Specialists of the National Council for transport safety (National Transportation Safety Board – NTSB) published the final report concerning the fatal accident in Queens.

A mysterious incident occurred in September 2017 and all this time experts are trying to figure out why a Charter bus suddenly pulled out into the intersection despite the red light. According to the NTSB, this could happen because a thermos for beverages, which dropped by the driver.

A terrible accident occurred in September 2017. Then Charter bus, under the control of Raymond Monga, for the unknown reasons has sharply accelerated, rammed the transport MTA and crashing into the restaurant.

The accident killed 3 people, including the driver of the passenger bus and the occasional pedestrian. Another 16 people received injuries of varying severity.

During the investigation it was found that Mong in the past worked as a driver in MTA, but in 2015 has been dismissed. The man lost his job due to an accident under the influence, which he committed while driving a passenger car.

Initially, investigators suspected that the accident could have happened due to driver error or technical malfunction of transport. But later these versions refused.

After analyzing the video and the details of the accident, the experts at the NTSB concluded that the cause of the accident, most likely, became a simple thermos. He fell down on the pedals, causing sudden acceleration of the bus and blocking access to the brakes.

During the investigation, NTSB staff conducted a series of experiments and agreed that the thermos could fall in a similar way, subsequently causing a terrible accident.

This theory was bolstered by the recording from the camera installed on the dashboard. It heard how a falling metal object, and the driver several times exclaims. It is noteworthy that after the accident, investigators found the thermos near the pedals, but thought it fell on the floor after the collision. Later the experts changed their minds.

The staff of the NTSB pointed the thermos as one of the most likely causes of the accident. Nevertheless in the final report, to establish all the circumstances preceding tragedy, is not possible.
