With former NYPD police officers, who confessed to sexual relations with 18-year-old arrested, charges dropped in rape

With two former detectives from Brooklyn, who confessed to sexual contact with a young girl when she was handcuffed in a police van, dropped the rape charges.

Ex-officers — 38-year-old Eddie Martinez and 34-year-old Richard Hall faced up to 25 years in prison on charges of rape and kidnapping of 18-year-old Anne chambers (a pseudonym used to protect identity) at the time of her arrest on Coney island in 2017. But under the new charges, announced in the Supreme court of Brooklyn, now the maximum that they could face is 7 years.

According to prosecutors, former police officers took 43 charges. Against them have filed nine charges of abuse of office and two counts of bribery.

Earlier Martins and Hall resigned and admitted to having had sex with the chambers, but by mutual consent. They reject any other charges against them.

Lawyers for the former officers was accused chambers that she repeatedly lied under oath about the details of the attack. The defender alleged victim protested that she didn’t even offer to testify before a Grand jury, which issued a new indictment.

«It’s just outrageous, the lawyer said chambers Michael David. — It was obvious. She had been abducted. There was evidence of DNA.»

But prosecutors said that can’t call her as a witness because she several times changed her story, and there is a possibility of perjury.

«They have guns, they have handcuffs. You can’t approve it under these circumstances» — was indignant defender chambers, adding that his client was «fed up»: «She’s upset. She’s in a depression. Now she is in a state of hopelessness because of what is happening».

After about chambers became known, the legislature of new York unanimously approved a law under which a person «under arrest, in prison or otherwise in custody», is unable to give consent. But, ironically, the bill may not be applied to the chambers, because it was adopted after the incident.

Peter Guadagnino, lawyer, Hall, said the two former police officers not pleased with the news.

«They are unhappy. It was a committed police officers, — the lawyer says. They still hurt because they had to quit their jobs a year and a half later.»
