Four students of the school of new York was subjected to a strip search just because they are laughing loudly

Four middle school students East Middle School in Binghamton came from the dining room and, according to them, walked down the corridor, talking and laughing, when they were stopped by the principal of the school.

According to the lawsuit filed by the families of students and law firm, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, 12-year-old girls were taken to the medical room of the school and without explanation, subjected to «discriminatory, inhumane and unlawful strip search».

The incident and the lawsuit has led to the fact that the Governor of the state of new York Andrew Cuomo announced the investigation by the state Department of education. Cuomo said: «to Require that the child took off his clothes, and then to make comments about his body is a shameful, humiliating, traumatizing sexual harassment.»

According to the lawsuit, the nurse searched the girls and their clothes and each of them was subjected to «humiliating and unnecessary comments about their bodies.» The nurse also accused one of the girls she had been forced to undergo a test to determine alcohol intoxication.

According to the lawsuit, any incriminating or illegal substances were not found.

It is also emphasized that prior to searching, the staff of the school never contacted the parents of the children, and the Director Tim Symonds later told my parents that forced students to pass the test, because it seemed to him that they were nervous and excited. The lawsuit emphasizes that laughter and broken teenagers are not objective facts for suspicion, justifying the search of children in the school.

Initially, the school district of Binghamton, said that «the school is not raided with a full strip». They argued that social networks had spread «misinformation» and that the medical examination may be required to remove «several layers of clothing to access a hand, if you want to measure a pulse or pressure.» They added that girls are not punished, and they were allowed to return to class.

However, the suit said one of the girls got suspended «without explanation», and all of them were traumatized by the incident and not been to class in a few days. Students temporarily transferred to another school because they felt «ashamed, humiliated and wanted to avoid unnecessary attention.»

In the investigation under the leadership of Cuomo, the Department of education cooperates with the police of new York Center for School Safety and local authorities to determine next steps and «to ensure that in the future this situation will not happen again.»
