The man who offered the ICE officer $4,000 for the deportation of his wife and child, was sentenced to 4 months

Antonio Oswaldo Burgos (48 years old) from Portland was sentenced to 4 months in Federal prison and 3 years of supervision after his release for attempting to bribe an officer of Immigration and customs enforcement (ICE).

According to court records, on may 24, 2018 Burgos followed the car the officer from the moment he came out of the ICE office in Portland and before he stopped in the Parking lot in Vancouver, Washington. The defendant offered the officer money for the deportation of his wife, whom he met in El Salvador and was just divorced. The officer dismissed the man and reported the incident to the Office of professional responsibility (OPR).

The officer himself called Burgos may 31, 2018. The call was recorded by the investigation team OPR. Antonio offered to pay the officer $3000 because he forced his wife to leave the country. After that the officer made another call recorded June 5, 2018, during which Burgos again offered him the money for the deportation of his wife. Burgos and the officer again later discussed the details during a personal meeting.

On the sixth of June 2018 Antonio met with an officer at the specified place and offered to pay $4,000 for the deportation of not only wife, but also her minor daughter from a previous relationship. Burgos gave the officer the half of the amount on the same day and agreed to bring the remaining amount after his family is deported. He was arrested in late June, when we again met with the staff of ICE and carried him the remaining $2000.
