U.S. athlete stabbed a spear at the training field

Athlete from the University of Georgia (UGA) in the city of Athens was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon, may 7, when during training he came across a spearleft by the athlete-thrower in the land. Fortunately, according to doctors, the victim will recover completely, although the spear even touched a lung.

According to police, student and athlete-Sprinter Elijah Godwin was in training when he came across a spear. He performed one of the exercises was to run backwards.

According to the coach of the men’s team UGA Petros Kyprianou, the guy will recover quickly and return to training.

The spear was left in the ground at an angle by someone of other athletes, when Godwin ran back. The guy was diagnosed with deep wound, was affected lung, the athlete has lost a lot of blood. When arrived at the scene rescuers and helped Godwin, part of the spear remained in his back, the guy needed surgery in hospital.

UGA issued a statement Wednesday afternoon:

«Elijah Godwin was injured when it got caught on a spear, left in the ground. The victim was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, he underwent surgery and is in stable condition.»

Sports medic UGA’s Ron Courson thanked the police, rescue workers, paramedics and doctors County Athens-Clarke, who helped the student and saved his life.
