A resident of Arizona buried their deceased 97-year-old mother in the back yard and never told anyone about her death, to continue receiving social benefits, including veterans Affairs.

As reported by law enforcement agencies, on Wednesday, may 22, they arrested 66-year-old Daniel Shannon, a resident of San tan valley, because he was hiding the corpse of a 97-year-old Leonie Shannon, you haven’t seen since December.

Police at this address called the neighbors man on 5 April, after began to worry about the whereabouts of an elderly woman. She was under the care of the son, but the neighbors for a long time not seen her.
Then Daniel Shannon told the investigators that his mother left home on December 21, and it was not the first time that she was gone. He added that the woman has recently started to obtain veterans ‘ benefits (Veterans Affairs benefits), and he didn’t want to report her disappearance that payments have not stopped.
But detectives continued the investigation and questioning men, and on Wednesday he admitted that his mother died on December 21. Instead of reporting it, Shannon buried a woman in the backyard to continue to receive her social security benefits and veterans Affairs.
The man claimed that he needed these funds to pay for the patent for his «invention». Police did not specify what kind of invention.
Authorities got a search warrant, detectives found the remains in the backyard. The medical examiner determines the cause of death.
Daniel Shannon charged with fraud and improper treatment of the remains. Police continue to investigate.
