Accident in West point: 1 cadet killed, 20 students and two soldiers were injured

Cadet West point — U.S. Military Academy — was killed, and another 20 cadets and 2 soldiers were injured after an armored military vehicle rolled over and fell 15 feet (4.5 m) from the slope near the training ground.

Army Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Ophardt, a representative of the institution, said that the accident happened around 6:45 in the morning.

A five-ton truck, known as a light medium tactical vehicle (Light Medium Tactical Vehicle), carrying of cadets on summer training area Natural Bridge, which is about 8 miles from the main campus of West point.

One cadet is reported deceased, 20 cadets and two soldiers are wounded that were involved in a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. off Route 293.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Aparta, the cause of the accident is still unknown. The victims were taken to local hospitals. Apart did not mention the name of the deceased cadet and did not specify how serious were the injuries of other victims. According to sources, the NY Post, two of the wounded suffered serious injuries.

«My heart aches for all the victims, said Governor Andrew Cuomo. — These brave cadets and soldiers are the best representatives of new York state and our country, and we owe it to them.»

According to the West point on Twitter, «the details of the incident are being investigated».

«These cars are very prone to rollover,— says Deputy Commissioner district disaster management Alan Mak. Is one of their shortcomings.»

West point — the highest of the Federal military school for the US army, founded in 1802. The Academy is located about 50 miles North of new York city.
