Four teenagers broke into the flaming house to save a 90-year-old neighbor

Four teenagers from Sapulpa (OK) and become true heroes after they saved his neighbor — a 90-year-old grandmother of 42 grandchildren Katherine Ritchie — from a burning house.

The incident occurred three weeks ago. Richie had just finished cooking now, turning to the bed, saw the flames. The woman tried to extinguish the fire with blankets and pillows, but the smoke and heat pretty quickly threw her for a loop. Then Katherine pressed the emergency call button worn in lieu of a necklace, and tried to get out of the blazing room. In vain: thick smoke was finally disorientated woman, and instead of a door leading to the hallway, every time she opened the door of the closet.

Thankfully, four teenagers who were across the street, saw from the Windows threw the smog and flames and rushed Richie to the rescue.

Nicholas Byrd, 14 years old, Dylan Wick, 16 years old, Seth Byrd, 16, and Wyatt Hall, 17, decided to split up. One of the guys tried to get inside through the front door, one through the black, third started to call 911, and the fourth went to the neighbor with an axe and a backup. In the end, Nicholas managed to knock the door and look at the house Catherine. The others helped him bring the woman out, and then with Richie waited for the arrival of firefighters and ambulance.

In her blog, Katherine’s daughter, Missy Ritchie Nicholas, wrote a teenagers open letter of thanks.

«These children, without delay, rushed to help the elderly woman, although were not sure if she’s here, and despite the fact that three of them didn’t even know it.» said Missy, thanking the boys for bravery from the face of 10 children and 42 grandchildren Richie.

«Thank you for not letting this day become a tragic end to an incredible life of our mother. she added — Thank you for stayed with her, cared about her and didn’t give to feel lonely until, until we arrived. Thank you for your kindness and dedication».

According to one of the boys, Wyatt, after that night, «his life has changed <…> — but only for the better.»
