The American died from the bite of a rattlesnake after a month of coma: the woman was not given the antidote

A resident of Georgia died in the hospital, never coming out of coma after, in may, she was bitten by a rattlesnake.

Family members of the deceased told Action News Jax that 62-year-old Priscilla Meredith was bitten by a poisonous snake in may in Waverly (GA), when the woman sister and I worked in the garden.

«We were packing, gardening tools, when suddenly she screamed: Oh my God, a snake! She bit me!» — said the sister of the deceased.

Meredith suffered a heart attack in the emergency room, and soon she began to refuse the liver and kidneys, she needed dialysis. After that, the woman plunged into a medically induced coma from which she never came out.

The family was shocked that the woman was not given the antidote.

The Director of the emergency Department in Brunswick Dr. Mohsen of Acegi made the following statement:

«In each case, when we treat a patient with snake bite, followed by a recommendation from the Georgia Poison Control on whether to introduce the antidote.»

According to the Director of Georgia Poison Control, Dr. Gaylord Lopez, less than 25% of patients with snake bites recommended by antivenom, as many people do severe allergies. Physicians say that such an Allergy was and Meredith, but some do not agree with them.

«They might be allergic, but the patient with antivenom can greatly increase the chances of surviving a poisonous snakebite. If there comes an allergic reaction, even if it is serious, we are able to treat it. This is not a problem. But you will face serious consequences if you do not enter antivenom».

The family noted that they consult with a lawyer about the incident.

According to statistics of the Department of environment and conservation University of Florida, in the United States every year to 8 thousand snake bites, but fatalities only 5-6 cases per year.
