A doctor from Virginia was killed Sunday, June 23, during a family vacation in Belize (a country on the Eastern coast of Central America).
53-year-old Gary swank, a cardiologist from Roanoke (Virginia) was found dead along with a Belizean guide, Mario Genialem. Men went fishing about a mile from San Pedro.

Swank was an interventional cardiologist, medical Director of the Laboratory of cardiac catheterization of the Carilion clinic and associate Professor of internal medicine at the Medical school Tech Carilion in Virginia.
The man loved fishing and vacationing with his wife and three children in Belize.
As reported in the News5 Belize, on Sunday, the police of San Pedro found the bodies of the doctor and his guide near the lagoon. Both men had multiple gunshot wounds.
According to preliminary information, the day before the murder, unidentified men opened fire at the front door of the apartment Mario Graniela. Police found a bullet hole in the door, but was unable to find a suspect.
The body of Graniela and Swank sent for forensic examination and the investigation continues.
In January the US state Department has issued recommendations for Americans traveling to Belize, with a request to exercise extreme caution in connection with the crime in the country.
Last night, June 24, it became known that the police in San Pedro have detained several people for questioning. While these people are not called suspects.
The local Commissioner of police Chester Williams has appointed a special task force to investigate the double murder.
