«I would do it again, even if I died»: a 20-year-old hero entered a burning house and rescued an 8-year-old girl

20-year-old hero derrick bird received burns to the face, back and arms 2 and 3 levels, to save from a burning house his 8-year-old niece.

Lying on a hospital bed, the man says without hesitation would do so again: «I would do it again, even if even more burned or died.»

House in Aberdeen, Washington caught fire when it was bird and six other members of the family, including three children. He caught a nephews Junior and Rory, who jumped out of a second story window, fleeing from the flames. But 8-year-old Mercedes panicked, seeing that her mother fell off the roof and did not jump.

Bird went back to the house, which was already fully engulfed in flames. He climbed up the stairs, feeling as the fire burns him, removed his shirt, covered the girl’s face to prevent smoke inhalation, and as quickly as possible made it out of the house. A badly burned guy and his nephews were taken to the medical center Harborview through the air.

The house is completely burned down, firemen and police consider it a miracle that no one died. The cause of the fire has not yet figured out, but I suppose that it started on the second floor.
