40 years ago in the USA found the body of an unknown woman dubbed «Orange socks». We now know who it is.

40 years later became known the name of the murdered girl, whose body was found in Texas in 1979. The girl was naked, she was wearing only orange socks – a «nickname» and got her and her business.

According to County Sheriff Robert Williamson Choady, the victim has been identified as 23-year-old Debra Jackson from the Abilene (Texas). She was found strangled to death on October 31, 1979 the I-35 North of Georgetown in the concrete drainage channel.

Although the famous serial killer Henry Lee Lucas was convicted of her murder in 1984, the name «Orange socks» remained a mystery. And later Lee Lucas said that he didn’t kill that girl.

«I hope that we still have a living witness, who says: «I knew Debra, and I saw her leave with that man or Henry Lee Lucas. We all hope so,» said the Sheriff at a press conference.

A major breakthrough in this case happened when police released an updated sketch of the victim’s appearance, and a sister Debra found out the picture missing. Later, their relationship confirmed by DNA analysis.

How to tell the relatives of Debra, the girl left home in Abilene in 1977. She often left home, so the family decided that Debra decided to «start over.» They searched for her, but I didn’t go to the police, so the information had not been entered into the Federal database.

Sheriff Choady sent gratitude to all the organizations, researchers, law enforcement officials and family members that helped in this investigation. He added that they will continue the investigation to find out who killed Debra.

«I was on the phone with her relatives and they said that Debra finally back home and able to sleep peacefully. This story also gives hope to other «cold cases» that were investigated by the decades,» said the Sheriff.
