In Manhattan, a man crushed by a faulty lift in «luxury»-the building

This morning, August 22, in new York city man was killed because of a faulty Elevator in a luxury high-rise building on Manhattan.

The tragic incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. in a 23-storey building called the Manhattan Promenade, located at 344 Third Ave. about East 25th Street in Kips Bay.

According to the Deputy chief of the fire Department of new York (FDNY) Anthony Arpaia in the Elevator were seven people when he stopped at the lobby level. A man came out of the Elevator when he suddenly collapsed into the basement, causing the man got stuck between the lift cabin and the shaft wall on the ground floor, caught in a deadly trap.

All other men remained in the Elevator, when he fell into the basement, they were not injured.

In the FDNY said the man died on the spot. His name has not been released, but according to preliminary information, he was about 30 years.

In «luxury»-the building at 183 apartments, built in the late 1990-ies, round the clock doorman and many feature balconies or terraces.

According to StreetEasy, one-bedroom apartments in the building currently available to rent at a price of $3695 per month.

It is unknown whether there were any violations or problems with the Elevator before, but, according to the New York Times, the building was recently fined for unsafe elevators.

In a statement, the Department of public works and buildings of new York said they are investigating the incident.

«We will take all necessary measures. Elevators are the safest form of travel in new York due to stringent security requirements and regular inspections by the city. We will surely find out what went wrong in this building, and find a way to prevent similar incidents in the future.»
