Male from the Bronx, celebrating the baptism of their grandson, was fatally shot early Sunday morning, August 25, at the Church.
46-year-old Edgar Perez was shot near the exit of the Church of the Holy Nativity on Bainbridge Ave. near Rochambeau Ave. in Norwood at about 3:20 a.m., police said. According to family, two granddaughters Perez (1 and 3 years) was baptized on the same day in the Church of Hunts Point.
Police sources said that ex-girlfriend of the shooter came to the party before him and he was pissed because he did not want to admit. Relatives said he was a member of a street gang.
Then the man returned with a gun to the Church and began disassembly. As a result, he opened fire, shot Perez in the back.
«I heard BAM, BAM, BAM. I don’t remember how many times, but it was loud, — said the neighbor, who declined to give his name. — I got to the corner and I saw a guy on the ground. I saw the blood on the floor, people screaming.»
According to relatives, his granddaughters had birthdays during the summer, so they celebrated the birthday and baptism.
«I heard three shots,’ said 45-year-old neighbor Sergio Rodriguez, cook, and nephew attended the party. — I ran to the window, and I see a lot of people out, and I see a man on the floor.»
Rodriguez ran with his wife, worrying that one of his nephews was shot.
«When I got there, I saw who it was. It was Edgar, Rodriguez said. I saw that it was him. It was a lot of excitement, noise and running people.»

Perez, a father of three children, worked in a small shop where they made sandwiches.
«He is a very good father. He did everything for the family, added Rodriguez. — He’s very good, very hardworking».
The victim was rushed to Montefiore medical center, but he was not able to save. The shooter got away.
«He was a really nice guy, he never looked for problems. I can’t believe this happened,» he told The Post his 40-year-old brother Genaro Perez.
The Church rents out its Banquet hall for parties and events. Neighbors told The Post that almost every weekend, guests hit the bottle and get into fights.
