11-year-old boy died after he was shot in the chest in Philadelphia. The main suspect is his 19-year-old brother

Monday, November 11, in West Philadelphia, an 11-year-old boy was shot in the chest. Police said that 19-year-old brother of the child is a suspect and is in custody.

The shooting occurred around noon in the 5700 block on Haddington Lane. The officer-defendant arrived, one minute after the call and found the boy in the living room with a gunshot wound to the chest. The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition and he was declared dead at 12:25.

Police believe the shooter was his older brother.

«At present, the suspect — 19-year-old brother, who, most likely, at the time, was home alone [except for the victim],» said the acting police Commissioner of Philadelphia Christine Coulter.

Police say the teenager ran out of the house after the shooting and asked the neighbors for help. He then left the scene and in a few blocks, was detained.

Police are consoling a distraught woman who arrived on the scene. 11 yr old was pronounced dead. Shot one time to the chest. Reports indicate he was home with his brother who is talking to police. They are not sure of the circumstances around the shooting @6abc pic.twitter.com/1fg5KPNiKA

Police found a semiautomatic pistol, but can’t say who it belongs to. Do not know where at the time of the incident, the parents of the brothers, but some family members were taken to the police station for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
