A firefighter and father of three was killed trying to save others a few hours before a scheduled family vacation to Disney World

A firefighter from Worcester (Massachusetts) died a few hours before a scheduled family vacation to Disney World, Wednesday night, November 13, when his team got into a fiery trap. Firefighters searched for residents in the blazing apartment building, the fire was assigned 4th grade.

39-year-old Lieutenant Jason Menard was one of the firefighters who first arrived on the scene. Eyewitnesses said that the fire began to flare up on the second floor, and the third could be the child (this information was not confirmed).

«Lieutenant Menard selflessly saved his team caught in a fire trap. He helped fire the Intern out on a rescue ladder, and then returned to rescue another firefighter,» said fire chief Michael Lavoie of Worcester.

But when fire engulfed the third floor, Menard could not escape. All residents of the home was saved although he suffered from the acrid smoke.

«Married father of three children, Jason Menard family had planned this morning to travel to Disney World, said Michael Papagni, President of the firefighters Union, Local 1009. Instead they are now preparing to bid farewell to the hero.»

According to Lavoie, strong winds and cold weather made it harder to fight fires in the state. The cause of the fire in the house where firefighter died, is being investigated.

Jason Menard worked at the firehouse in Worcester in 2010.

«He was a passionate firefighter who loved his job, added Lavoie. — He was very serious about his duty, and his commitment to the residents of Worcester, was unwavering».

In December, the city will be declared a day of remembrance in honor of the eight firefighters who died in the line of duty over the past 20 years.
