Mother and sons from the US went missing after volcano eruption in New Zealand

Three natives of Chicago — a mother and her teenage sons with a father from Sydney, went missing after the eruption of the volcano on new Zealand’s White island.

As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Matthew, and Berend Hollander (13 and 16 years) and their parents, 48-year-old Martin Hollander and 50-year-old Barbara Hollander, explored the island when the volcano began to erupt.

Martin investment Director from Sydney who has worked in Chicago, according to his Linkedin page. Barbara grew up in the Northern suburbs of Chicago. At the time of the disappearance, they were living in Knox — a suburb of Sydney.

«With a heavy heart I can confirm that the Knox family is currently missing due to the eruption of the volcano on White island in New Zealand,» wrote Director of the school parents.

Six people confirmed dead in the eruption — and the authorities say that eight more were missing and presumed dead.

At least 30 people were hospitalized, including 25 of them are in critical condition. Among the wounded — the couple from Massachusetts ivy Con reed and Rick reed, who miraculously survived. Both underwent surgery and are on the mend. This was reported by son Rick, Mike Reid, on his page in Facebook.

«I talked with both of them, said Mike. They seem to be in relatively good spirits, given the tragic circumstances. Dad blurted out a few jokes on the phone, it is always a good sign.»

It was previously reported that more than 30% of the father’s body was covered with burns, including burns of the fourth degree on the hands, face and right leg.
