7-month-old baby died on Christmas morning from the beating, not after the fall from the couch

7-month-old baby who was brought to the hospital in Baltimore last weekend, died on Christmas morning.

The the Maryland police began a murder investigation after an autopsy, which found that the baby could be beaten to death, although her family claims that she fell off the couch.

Harlem Phillips was taken to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital on Sunday, December 22, at about 22:00, unconscious, after she allegedly fell off the couch in a house in northeast Baltimore.

But doctors told detectives later that night that her injuries were the same as in children after the beating, said in a statement to the police.

The baby was pronounced dead Wednesday morning, despite several days of treatment.

Her body was taken to the office of the medical examiner, which ruled that she died from the injuries inflicted with a blunt object.

Detectives questioned the mother and caregiver of a child, among others. So far no criminal charges have been filed.

«Detectives are interviewing people; they hope to get information from people who may have heard the argument, from the neighbors who may have heard or seen something that was not quite right, — said the police officer Donny Moses. — They want to get any information that will help them identify the suspect and ultimately bring him to justice».

Anybody with information is asked to call the police on the phone 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
