Dozens of rescuers, equipped with ropes and equipment for diving, struggled trying to help a teenager who had been in the water for about an hour. He was soon taken to the hospital in Newark where he later died from his injuries and hypothermia.

«He was underwater too long. They could not find him, so the search took a team of divers. He was there, maybe 40 minutes, maybe longer, maybe an hour.» — said the aunt of David. «I just hope that all will tell their children not to go on the ice. Don’t do this.»

The chief of police of East Brunswick Frank Losacco warned people about the danger and urged not to enter any areas of ice on bodies of water, even in cold weather.
