Father was able to scare off a mountain lion that lunged at his 6-year-old daughter

Preserve in California in the County of Santa Clara is temporarily closed after Sunday morning 6-year-old girl was bitten on the leg by a mountain lion. Fortunately, the child was not seriously hurt.

The girl was walking along a footpath with his family. Her father managed to scare off a 100-pound animal when mountain lion bit the child’s leg.

The Park Ranger gave first aid to the child, then the girl was taken to hospital but was discharged.

«When an animal is found and identified, the wildlife Department of California will determine what action to take,» the statement reads Park.

The Park will be closed until the investigation is completed.

This incident is unusual because mountain lions are nocturnal animals – do not attack during the day.

«Such cases are extremely rare, but the mountains of Santa Cruz are home to pumas, so people must be vigilant,» said a Park spokesman.
