According to police, on Monday, the 29-year-old German citizen driving a Mercedes-Benz crashed into a crowd in the carnival parade in the German city of Volkmarsen, injuring dozens of people, including many children.

Witnesses told investigators that the motorist, probably deliberately drove into the crowd, according to NBC News.

The suspect was among 20-30 people who were treated from injuries sustained in the accident, the statement said local officials.
