Three people were killed after the plane crashed on I-55 in Illinois

Three people were killed when Tuesday morning on interstate 55 crashed a small plane, reported the state police. The incident occurred in the Central part of Illinois.

All three passengers of the plane died in the crash in Lincoln about 8:50 a.m., reported the press-Secretary of police of Illinois mindy Carroll.

Lincoln is about 150 miles southwest from Chicago and about 30 miles North-East from Springfield.

The Logan County coroner confirmed the death toll. The victims identified, but their names were not disclosed pending notification of relatives.

According to the Federal aviation administration, the aircraft under unknown circumstances crashed in the middle of the highway and was destroyed upon impact. The aircraft type has not been set.

According to the police of the state of Illinois, on the scene responded to numerous law enforcement agencies, and I-55 will remain closed to traffic for several hours. The FAA also went to the scene.

The national Council for transport safety will lead the investigation with assistance from FAA, said Elizabeth Hicham Cory from the Department of public relations of the FAA. The investigation could take a year or more, she said.
