An inmate from Florida who was among the 100 people, released early last month to slow the spread of coronavirus, was again in jail. A man suspected of the murder, which occurred just a day after his release.
Joseph Edward Williams, 26, associated with the shooting in Gibsonton (Hillsborough County), 11 miles South-East of Tampa. The person killed has not been disclosed: we know only that he was found on the street with a gunshot wound and was immediately taken to the hospital where the victim later died.
According to Sheriff Chad Chronister, «there is no doubt» that Williams — who at the time of release was served at the Orient Road Jail sentence for drug possession — «used» emergency related to pandemic coronavirus to continue to lead a criminal lifestyle.
«Any murder and violence <…> is a terrible reminder of the dark side of human nature. — added Chronister — Especially in these difficult times, when we constantly fight COVID-19».
Williams faces charges of second-degree murder, resisting arrest, illegal possession of firearms and drugs.
