A couple who left home due to wildfires watched helplessly as they robbed him

An Oregon couple, forced to leave their home by wildfires raging nearby, soon faced another challenge. The couple had to helplessly watch through the video surveillance system as the looters burst into their home.

Tracy and Marvin Johnson told KOIN 6 News that the flames destroyed a two-mile walking trail in Beavercreek, which they had been building for 8 years, but firefighters managed to save the house — only for the robbers to show up after the couple left.

“Our Nest camera turned on, indicated some movement,” recalls Marvin, “and we saw the lights come on in our driveway.”

«The door opened and the voices of people talking in the house were heard.»

The Johnsons called the police, but by the time the officers arrived, the looters had already disappeared. Luckily, the couple adds, the thieves didn't seem to take too much.

The Johnson home is in Clackamas County. According to the sheriff's office, 13 people have already been arrested in local evacuation areas, including for burglary, criminal intrusion and possession of burglary weapons.
