The father allegedly used a fake beard and black face as a disguise to kill the mother of his young child after a custody battle.
Andrew Charles Beard, 33, from Carrollton, Texas, is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Alyssa Ann Burkett on October 2, 2020. Burkett was shot and stabbed several times in the apartment complex where she worked, police said. Because of the makeup, the witnesses considered the attacker black.
The day after the murder, police said they had found an abandoned car in an alley just four minutes' walk from Byrd's house. It matched the description of the car seen at the scene of the murder. The detectives also found traces of blood and a fake beard with traces of brown makeup.
Further investigation revealed that the man had been tracking Alissa, and a search of his home revealed the clothes that Byrd was believed to be wearing on the day of the murder.
According to police, the murder was an act of revenge for the fact that Burkett received custody of their former one-year-old daughter.
On the GoFundMe page, which the woman created to raise funds for legal costs in connection with the litigation, she said that Byrd would «do anything» to «get rid» of her.
“I'm worried that it will only get worse,” Alissa wrote.
The page has since been converted into a fundraising campaign for Burkett's funeral. The woman's family has already donated $ 30 thousand.
