In Nice, an unknown person beheaded a woman in a church and killed two more people

An unknown person broke into the church with a knife, beheaded a woman and killed two more in the French city of Nice on Thursday morning.

The attack took place in the famous Basilica of Notre Dame de Nice. A police source confirmed to Reuters that three were killed — including a decapitated woman — and several others were injured. According to eyewitness reports, the attacker shouted «Allahu Akbar».

City Mayor Christian Estrosi said on Twitter that the man was later detained by the police. He was wounded upon arrest and taken to hospital.

The police cordoned off the area in which the attack took place. The exact motive for the attack is not yet known, however, according to Estrosi, «everything suggests a terrorist attack.»

Earlier this month, a Chechen native beheaded French high school teacher Samuel Pati. The tragedy happened after Pati showed in one of the lessons of the Charlie Hebdo caricature of the Prophet Muhammad, discussing with students freedom of expression.
