Ten people died and more 20 were taken to local hospitals after a van crashed on Highway 281 near Encino, Texas on Wednesday afternoon, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) spokesman Nathan Brandley said.

As reported. Brandley CNN, there were 30 people in the white Ford passenger van when the driver tried to turn right, “turned off the road and hit a metal post and a stop sign.”

According to Brandley, the van was moving on high speed. The witness also told DPS that the car had not been chased before the accident. According to the department, the driver and nine passengers died at the scene.

At least some of the people in the van are believed to be undocumented migrants, Sheriff Urbino Martinez said.

DPS is still investigating the incident. The identities of the victims will be disclosed as soon as their next of kin are notified, the department said.
